By introducing the affordable Note 14 series to the European market, Redmi became the first brand to bring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor to this region. This processor was released in August 2024, but at that time attention shifted to Snapdragon 8 Elite. Now, Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is getting the attention it deserves with the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G model.
The Redmi Note 14 series appeals to a wide range of users with five different models. Note 14 Pro Plus 5G, the most notable member of the series, uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor. This processor is a chipset developed with Qualcomm’s 4nm production technology and switched to Arm’s v9 CPU architecture. At the heart of the processor is the Cortex-A720 core running at 2.5 GHz. MediaTek processors were preferred in other models of the series.
The Pro Plus 5G model stands out with its 12 GB RAM, 512 GB storage capacity, IP68 water resistance certification and large OLED screen protected by Corning’s high-end Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The device was launched at a starting price of £399 / €499.90 and beats the Google Pixel 8A in terms of hardware specs. However, in terms of software updates, the fact that the Pixel 8A offers Android support until 2031 leaves Redmi one step behind in this area.
Other members of the Note 14 series offer a gradual drop in features:
- Note 14 Pro 5G: It retains the 200-megapixel camera and IP68 certification of the Pro Plus model, but has a MediaTek 7300-Ultra processor and slower charging.
- Note 14 Pro: This model has 4G instead of 5G connection and has an IP64 water resistance rating.
- Note 14 5G and Note 14: Although the most affordable models of the series generally have lower technical specifications, the IP54 water resistance certificate of the 4G model attracts attention in this price segment.
After being launched in China and India last year, the Note 14 series has been launched in the UK, Germany and eight other European countries as of today. Having European models have different technical features than their Asian counterparts is a strategy that Redmi frequently uses. For example, the Pro Plus 5G model in Europe comes with different camera and battery features.
Redmi Note 14 series will also compete with Poco X7 and X7 Pro
The Redmi Note 14 series also has to compete with the newly introduced X7 and X7 Pro models from Poco, another sub-brand of Xiaomi. Poco X7 Pro targets budget-friendly users with its large 6,000 mAh battery and IP68 certification. This situation creates a competitive environment between price-performance focused devices within the Xiaomi family.
