Proton, known for its privacy and security-oriented software, announced the new VPN application it developed for Windows ARM devices. The team, which is also the developer of Proton Mail, has introduced one of the VPN applications that provides native support for Windows ARM devices, in cooperation with Microsoft. It is noteworthy that the new application is one of the first VPN solutions to work on Windows ARM devices and aims to provide users with a faster and more secure experience.
This new Windows ARM compatible Proton VPN version has the same features as the current x86 version. However, since it has been developed compatible with ARM processors, it is expected to open and run faster than x86 applications running in Windows 11’s emulator. The reason why Proton highlights this application is improved safety standards rather than speed. Optimized for ARM architecture, the application has an infrastructure that can fully reflect the advanced security measures offered by Proton.
Proton’s innovation plans are not limited to Windows ARM support. The company aims to offer various new features for iOS and iPadOS in the winter of 2024 to respond to user demands. These new features requested by users include options such as sorting servers according to occupancy rates, selecting servers by city, and being able to hide free servers. Proton also plans to bring IPv6 support to a wider range of users, offer port forwarding support on macOS and Linux platforms, and add guest modes to iOS and iPadOS applications. With these innovations, the company aims to bring more comprehensive solutions to its security needs by offering more options to its users.
Other big names in the VPN industry have also started offering solutions for ARM devices. Surfshark released a dedicated VPN app for Windows ARM devices in August, while NordVPN announced plans to release a similar app for this fall. Therefore, Proton VPN aims to make room for itself in the competition by offering support for ARM devices.
Proton also offers Apple TV app
Proton VPN’s structure that prioritizes user privacy, its no-logging policy and its open source structure make it stand out in the VPN market. Proton aims for its VPN services to be among the top ranked in terms of reliability and availability in 2024. In addition, the company’s Apple TV application allows paid plan owners to access media content from anywhere in the world.
