Palworld PS5 version was announced as a surprise during Sony’s State of Play event. It has been rumored for a long time that Pocketpair would bring one of this year’s most talked about games, Palworld, to PlayStation 5. However, the news that the action-adventure game will be playable on PS5 starting today was announced at Sony’s State of Play event and it came as an unexpected surprise.
Palworld, often described as a “Pokémon with weapons,” launched in Early Access for Xbox and PC in January. The game was a huge success, selling one million copies in just eight hours and reaching over 25 million players by the end of its first month. According to Microsoft, the game had the biggest launch for a third-party game on Game Pass.
However, it soon became clear that The Pokémon Company was investigating Palworld. After eight months, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have initiated legal proceedings against Pocketpair. Nintendo, which filed the lawsuit last week, said, “This lawsuit was filed to seek damages and a stay of infringement on the grounds that Palworld, developed and released by the defendant, infringes on several patent rights.”
Pocketpair’s CEO stated that the game “has undergone legal review” and that the studio will “initiate appropriate legal action against claims of patent infringement.”
The timing for the release of the Palworld PS5 version is not ideal
Given these developments, the timing for Palworld coming to PS5 doesn’t seem ideal. However, if you’re willing to play a game that’s at risk of being shut down by lawsuits in the future, you can get the experience on PS5 now.
