Opened Claude access to Google engineers: Usage limited to Antigravity

Google says its engineers are working on Anthropic claude allowed him to use his model in in-house development work. According to a report by Business Insider based on two employees and confirmed by a Google spokesperson, access is provided through the Antigravity platform in the company’s internal version. It is not possible to open the model as a free Claude Code account for everyone. There is a usage quota for each engineer; Google says that Gemini remains the base model.

The decision is notable at first glance, as Google heavily features its Gemini family in both consumer products and software development tools. However, it may be a practical need for a large engineering team to use different models in the same working environment. For tasks such as writing code, debugging, or reviewing a long change, a single model may not produce the same result in every situation. The news shows that Google manages this preference with limited access in the corporate environment.

Antigravity, shown as the access point, is Google’s artificial intelligence-supported development platform. It should not be assumed that the internal use version carries the same settings as the public product. The change reported by Business Insider is related to the workflow of Google engineers; It doesn’t mean that Antigravity users out there are given the same Claude quota or the same model selection. The company has not announced a new price or access for general use.

The news states that Claude Opus 5 is available to engineers. However, there is a difference between ‘all engineers use it’ and ‘access is opened to all engineers’. The explanation supports the second case; No numbers were shared regarding which team used the model and how often. The quota limit also prevents the model from being the default option in every mission.

Does Claude access on Google affect users?

The fact that the Google spokesperson emphasized that Gemini remains the main model shows that the internal decision should not be presented as a radical change in product strategy. In addition to the tools they have developed themselves, institutions may choose to try different providers for certain tasks. What is noteworthy here is that a company like Google, which develops its own pioneering models, takes the rival model into its engineering platform. It is not disclosed how this decision will affect the Gemini road map.

In model comparisons, actual workflows can provide more insight than publicly available test scores. The result an engineer is looking for is not just longer code production; This could be following existing repository rules, passing tests, and making the change reviewable. Google’s internal user quota and access limit may also allow it to make this evaluation in a controlled manner. However, since the company did not publish the results, it cannot be concluded that Claude is superior to Gemini. For now, the verifiable framework is clear: Claude access is extended for Google engineers, usage occurs in the on-premises Antigravity environment and under quota, Gemini remains the base option. It will be understood in the future whether the decision will be reflected in external user products or whether it will create a measurable change in engineering efficiency.
