OpenAI brings ChatGPT to universities and NGOs

OpenAI has launched new programs for universities and non-profit organizations to increase the accessibility of ChatGPT. The company announced ChatGPT Edu and OpenAI for Nonprofits programs. These innovations aim to expand the use of AI technology in education and social responsibility.

ChatGPT Edu for universities

With ChatGPT Edu, OpenAI enables universities to use artificial intelligence responsibly for students, academic staff and campus operations. This version is based on the GPT-4o model, which is faster and has advanced multi-mode capabilities. It offers superior performance in text, visual and audio content.

Universities can use ChatGPT Edu to review student resumes, write grant applications, and assist professors with grading. The tool offers “enterprise-grade” security and does not use data to train OpenAI's models. It is offered to universities in an “affordable” way.

OpenAI For Nonprofits for NGOs

OpenAI has also introduced a special program for non-profit organizations. OpenAI for Nonprofits offers ChatGPT Team to NGOs for a lower price of $20 per user per month. Larger organizations can access ChatGPT Enterprise, which offers greater capabilities and security, at a 50 percent discount.

These announcements come after a tumultuous few weeks at OpenAI. Several prominent researchers have resigned due to security concerns. Additionally, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman faced criticism for introducing an AI voice similar to Scarlett Johansson.

Helen Toner, former board member of OpenAI, talked about the CEO on the TED AI Show podcast. Toner had alleged that Altman provided false information about the company's security processes and acted manipulatively in various situations. These developments revealed tensions in OpenAI's internal dynamics.

OpenAI's ChatGPT Edu and OpenAI for Nonprofits programs aim to increase the impact of artificial intelligence on education and nonprofits. These programs contribute to making AI technology more accessible and usable by the masses. The widespread use of AI in education and social fields is seen as an important step in terms of social development.

OpenAI's expansion with these new programs will enable artificial intelligence to be used more widely in many areas of daily life. The company aims to increase social benefit by making technology more accessible and secure. These innovative steps by OpenAI will further expand the future potential and impact of artificial intelligence.
