CMF, Nothing’s sub-brand known for its affordable products, announced that it will not introduce a new smartphone this year. Akis Evangelidis, one of the founding partners of the company, answered users’ questions about the new CMF phone in his statement on X. Evangelidis confirmed that work is continuing on a follow-up model to Phone Pro 2. However, he stated that current memory costs make it difficult for CMF to develop a new device that is suitable for its price segment and can offer meaningful improvement for users. For this reason, the company decided not to release a new phone in 2026.
According to Evangelidis’ statement, CMF does not want to develop a product just to present a new model. The company thinks that the new device should both provide a noticeable technical progress and maintain the price level targeted by the brand. However, recently rising RAM costs have made it difficult to establish this balance. CMF management also evaluated that it is not possible to produce a product that will meet user expectations under current conditions.
The price increases in the memory industry in the last year directly affect the production plans of technology companies. As server and data center investments for artificial intelligence systems accelerated, manufacturers directed a significant part of their resources to high-capacity memory demands. This situation caused a supply shortage in RAM components used by smartphone and computer manufacturers. In addition, leading companies in the industry such as Apple and Samsung have previously warned that increasing costs may be reflected in product prices.
Rising memory costs impact the smartphone market
Market research company IDC also drew attention to the effects of rising component prices on the technology sector in its recently published evaluation. According to the institution’s estimates, there may be a decline of approximately 10 percent in computer shipments throughout the year due to higher costs. Similar pressures apply to smartphone manufacturers. Especially brands operating in the entry and middle segments, where competition is intense, have difficulty in developing products without passing on price increases to the end user.
CMF’s last smartphone, Phone Pro 2, was introduced in April 2025. The company positioned this model as the thinnest and lightest smartphone it has ever developed. In addition, it was stated that the device can provide up to two days of use on a single charge. CMF quickly attracted attention with its design-oriented approach and accessible pricing policy, and reached a strong user base, especially in the Indian market.
A few months after the introduction of Phone Pro 2, Nothing turned the CMF brand into an independent subsidiary based in India. While India stands out as one of the strongest markets for Nothing, the company continues to expand its activities in this region. Despite this, the postponement of new phone plans does not mean that the brand has given up on its growth targets.
According to Evangelidis’ statements, CMF will continue to introduce different products this year. While the company is expected to add new devices to its existing product family, it is stated that it will also enter some categories in which it has not been involved before. A clear date has not been shared regarding when the new smartphone will arrive. Despite this, it is understood that CMF expects the current market conditions to become more favorable and aims to launch the new model at a point where it can offer a more technically powerful update.
