New lighting effects and customization options added to Philips Hue app

Philips enriches users’ lighting experiences by offering four new lighting effects through the Hue application. These new effects include an option that simulates light vibrations underwater. This update, noticed by Hueblog, allows customization of existing effects and new effects that will be offered by Philips in the future.

Effects currently available include options that allow Hue lamps and bulbs to create a candle effect with a softly flickering yellow light or the appearance of a fireplace in more intense reds and oranges. With version 5.28 of the Hue application, now available, new effects such as cosmos, underwater, magic and sunray are added, bringing the total number of effects to 10. However, these effects are not available on all Hue products; Philips has shared a full list of lights that support this feature.

These effects are designed to simulate specific lighting experiences with specific colors and animations. However, with the latest update, users will also have the opportunity to change the base color of the effects. For example, it is now possible to enjoy a candlelight look in pink. It is also up to users to adjust the intensity of the effects, change the flicker speed or the brightness of color transitions.

The Hue app has long been known as a very practical and modern way to manage Philips’ smart lighting products. However, in recent years, the app’s customization options have lagged behind rival brands such as Govee and Nanoleaf. The addition of the ability to edit lighting effects stands out as a welcome development for users in this sense. Such competitive environments generally enable better products to be offered to consumers.

Other improvements coming with the latest update include the “diffuse” lighting style, which was initially only available with lights in the Philips Hue Festavia series, is now available for gradient lights across the entire Hue series. Additionally, users who upgrade to iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 will be able to opt for dark and colorful styles on the app’s icons and widgets.

Halloween scenes added to Philips Hue app

Meanwhile, with the start of the Halloween season, Halloween scenes have been added to the Philips Hue app again. These scenes add a scary atmosphere to the environment by controlling all the lights in the room with different colors and transitions. In addition to the two new Halloween scenes introduced last year, eight classic scenes are available again this year; These include options such as spellbound, glowing grins and witching hour.
