Microsoft is going to a significant change that will directly affect Windows 10 users. The company announced that it will leave the new feature in this operating system for Office applications completely in August 2026. Only security updates will be provided as of this date. Microsoft confirmed this decision with the documents he quietly published.
The change includes individual users who have a Microsoft 365 subscription and licensed systems for the business world. As of August 2026, “Microsoft 365 Personal” and “Family” subscribers will not be able to meet new functions on Windows 10. On the corporate side, users with a current version channel called “Current Channel iyle will reach the same end on the same date. For other update channels, later dates have been determined.
Microsoft has assigned different dates to different update channels
The new feature support for “Monthly Enterprise Channel” users for corporate customers will end on October 13, 2026. “Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel” users, which are less frequently updated, will continue to benefit from new features until January 12, 2027. This shows that Microsoft gradually ends the new development process for Office applications over Windows 10. Security updates will continue even after these dates.
Microsoft had previously announced that Office applications will continue to updates security up to 2028. This decision was considered as a back step after the user reactions. However, the company did not share any information that new features would be cut at that time. Now, with the shared calendar, users will literally switch to Windows 11 for the new Office experience.
The general support time of Windows 10 will already end on October 14, 2025. However, security support for Office applications will continue until October 10, 2028. This time is important in terms of reducing risks, especially for corporate systems. Nevertheless, the deprived of new functions will create significant limitations on the user side.
Microsoft continues its efforts to direct users to Windows 11. Although Windows 11 has exceeded Windows 10 in recent use rates, millions of devices still continue to run Windows 10. The company continues to offer different incentive mechanisms to accelerate the transition. These include the extension of free security support with Windows Backup feature.
Hardware compatibility is one of the main obstacles faced by users in the Windows 11 transition. Many old systems cannot be upgraded because Windows 11 does not meet the system requirements. This situation forces small businesses as well as individual users. The new hardware investment means additional cost.
