Microsoft introduces the new design of OneDrive to users

Microsoft has started distribution of the new design of its OneDrive cloud storage service. The software giant made the first announcement last year for OneDrive’s new look, prepared with the Fluent design language. The new design will be delivered to all individual OneDrive users by the end of the month.

Miceile Barrett, a product manager at Microsoft, said the following about the new design: “It is both a visual and functional upgrade designed to help you quickly access your files and keep your content organized in a variety of ways. Improved visual design reduces clutter and distractions, allowing you to focus on what matters: your content.”

OneDrive’s new visual interface more closely matches Windows 11 and is closer to changes made to Microsoft’s various Office apps. Although the main interface has been simplified and modernized, the new person view, where files and documents can be found by looking at the faces of family members or friends with whom documents are regularly shared, is among the features of the renewed interface.

The software giant also added new file filters to the updated OneDrive interface. Thus, the interface can be filtered according to Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF files. The ‘Add new’ button now includes options for both uploading files and creating new documents using Office applications. This is much better than the two separate buttons found in OneDrive for file uploads and new folders/documents.

File filters are also coming for Microsoft OneDrive

The software giant has also added new file filters to this updated OneDrive user interface; so you can filter the interface by Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF files. The “add new” button now includes options for both uploading files and creating new documents using Office applications. This is arguably much better than the two separate buttons found in OneDrive for file uploads and new folders/documents.

Microsoft is also planning other innovations for OneDrive, especially on the corporate user side. The software giant is preparing to offer innovations such as offline support and faster loading times.
