MediaTek can change the balance in the middle segment with Dimensity 8600

Information about the new generation processors that MediaTek is expected to introduce this year continues to become clear. It was previously brought to the agenda that the company is working on the Dimensity 9600 model, which will be positioned in the flagship class. Now, a new leak shows that MediaTek has developed a new processor called Dimensity 8600 for upper mid-segment phones. Preliminary information indicates that this model will offer remarkable innovations in production technology and performance.

According to information shared by China-based leak source Digital Chat Station, Dimensity 8600 will be developed with the 3nm production process. It is stated that MediaTek will use a more advanced architecture compared to current upper mid-segment processors. In addition, it is stated that significant improvements will be made in energy efficiency and performance. It is thought that the company particularly focuses on the balance of gaming performance and battery consumption. This shows that the processor can be used not only in the middle segment, but also in models that offer a flagship experience.

MediaTek’s current Dimensity 8500 processor was introduced in China at the beginning of this year. This chipset developed with the 4nm manufacturing process; It is used in models such as Redmi Turbo 5, Poco X8 Pro, Honor Power 2, China-only iQOO Z11, Motorola Edge 70 Pro and Oppo K15 Pro. Despite this, the fact that the new Dimensity 8600 model moves the production technology to 3nm level may mean lower power consumption as well as increased performance. A more stable experience is expected to be provided, especially in mobile games and artificial intelligence-supported transactions.

The first phones using Dimensity 8600 may arrive by the end of the year

According to the leak, manufacturers such as Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor have already started testing on new devices using the Dimensity 8600 processor. It is stated that the sub-brands of these brands are also making similar preparations. While new models are expected to be introduced towards the end of the year, it is claimed that batteries exceeding 10,000 mAh capacity can be used in some devices. Recently, especially Chinese manufacturers have turned to high-capacity silicon-carbon batteries, making these claims stronger.

On the other hand, it is said that one of the first models to use the Dimensity 8600 processor may be the Honor Power 3. In addition, it is not yet clear whether devices such as Redmi Turbo 6 and Poco X9 Pro will switch to this platform. It seems that MediaTek has gained a stronger position against the Qualcomm Snapdragon series in the upper mid-range segment in recent years. It is noteworthy that the Dimensity series is preferred more frequently, especially in price-performance focused phones.

However, how the 3nm production process will affect manufacturers on the cost side is also among the topics of curiosity. It is known that new generation processors using TSMC’s advanced production lines have higher production costs. Despite this, it seems that MediaTek aims to offer a more balanced structure between performance and energy efficiency with Dimensity 8600. Technical details and official performance data about the processor are expected to emerge in the coming months.
