MediaMarkt Türkiye made a statement after the Competition Authority decision

MediaMarkt Türkiye shared a public statement regarding the administrative fine decision given by the Competition Authority against the company. In the company’s text dated April 17, 2026, the Competition Authority stated that MediaMarkt Turkey Tic. Ltd. It was stated that Şti. had violated Article 4 of the Law No. 4054 on the Protection of Competition within the scope of an agreement and/or concerted action considered to be a “collect-distribute cartel” and decided to impose an administrative fine accordingly. In the statement, it was emphasized that the process regarding the legal consequences of the decision will continue and that the company will exercise its legal rights after the notification of the reasoned decision.

The main framework that stood out in the company’s statement was the approach adopted by Türkiye operations regarding competition law and compliance with relevant legislation. MediaMarkt Türkiye stated that it considers full compliance with competition law as one of the basic elements of its corporate governance approach, not only on a local scale but in all countries where it operates. In addition, it was stated that the Competition Authority acted in cooperation with the authority throughout the investigation process. However, although the company stated that it respected the decision, it clearly stated that it did not accept the determination that it was a party to a legal violation of the nature subject to evaluation.

MediaMarkt Türkiye states that the legal process will continue

The shared statement is not limited to just responding to the current decision; It also points to the next legal road map. Accordingly, MediaMarkt Türkiye will evaluate the file in all its legal aspects after the Competition Authority’s reasoned decision is officially notified to the company. The company also clearly states that all legal rights it has within the framework of the relevant legislation will be used. This statement shows that the current decision is not seen as a closed process for the company, on the contrary, it has moved to a stage where legal review and objection mechanisms can be put into action.

When the language of the statement is examined, it is seen that there is an attempt to establish a balanced line between corporate reputation and legal position. While on the one hand, respect for the decision of the public authority is emphasized, on the other hand, it is clearly stated that we do not agree with the evaluation on which this decision is based. This approach can be considered as one of the two-way communication forms frequently used by companies, especially in administrative sanctions imposed within the scope of competition law. But the striking point here is that MediaMarkt Türkiye does not merely state that it reserves the right to object; At the same time, it emphasizes the size of its operations in Türkiye, its employees, business partners and customer base, and highlights the message that it will continue its activities with the same determination.

The company reminds that it has been operating in Türkiye for 19 years and serves millions of customers across the country with more than 4 thousand employees. This emphasis aims to renew public confidence. Because decisions taken within the scope of competition law do not only have legal and financial consequences; It can also have an impact on the reliability of the brand, its relationships with business partners and consumer perception. Therefore, operational continuity, customer experience and collaborations with stakeholders also have an important place in MediaMarkt Türkiye’s statement.

Looking at the entire text, it can be said that the company gives three basic messages. First of all, it seems that the decision taken by the Competition Authority was not hidden from the public and was directly shared in a transparent language. Secondly, it appears that the company does not agree with the content of the decision and will continue to defend its own thesis on legal grounds. Thirdly, MediaMarkt Türkiye emphasizes that this ongoing process will not change its commercial activities and the service approach it offers to its customers. On the other hand, the statement does not include details about the reason for the decision, the scope of the file, or which acts were evaluated within the framework of which evidence during the investigation process. For this reason, the company’s current position seems to be shaped more within the framework of first-stage corporate information.
