macOS 27 Golden Gate is coming: Apple has reworked the Liquid Glass design

Apple announced the new operating system version macOS 27 Golden Gate for Mac users at the WWDC 2026 opening event. In the new version, the company takes into account the criticisms regarding the user interface and includes changes that reconsider the system-wide search experience. The Liquid Glass design approach, introduced last year with macOS Tahoe 26, has been more comprehensively revised in this update. In addition, the changes made to the Finder and system indexing infrastructure also attract attention.

One of the prominent innovations of macOS 27 Golden Gate is that the Liquid Glass design language has a more consistent and mature appearance. After macOS Tahoe 26, some users stated that the new visual approach was not implemented at the same level throughout the system and that it felt incomplete in some sections. Apple aims to respond to these criticisms by rearranging the user interface components in the new version. According to the company’s statement, buttons, menus and various system elements now offer a more compatible appearance with the new design language.

In addition, users will also have access to new options that can adjust the intensity of the Liquid Glass effect throughout the system. Thus, users who like more pronounced transparency and glass-like effects and those who prefer a simpler appearance will be able to make adjustments according to their own usage habits. The system icons that Apple uses in all operating systems also take their share from the updated Liquid Glass approach. This change aims for a more consistent visual experience across different platforms.

macOS 27 Golden Gate renews the interface and search system

Another issue that Apple focused on was the corner rounding structure in windows and applications. In the previous version, some users argued that changing corner radii between different applications and system windows disrupted visual integrity. This design choice, which differed depending on the components especially in the upper part of the interface, was found inconsistent by some segments. With macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple is starting to use a fixed corner radius system-wide. Moreover, this approach is not limited to updated applications only; The same visual standard is maintained in applications that have not yet been adapted to the new design.

On the search side, Apple is making a more comprehensive change. The company announced that its content indexing infrastructure was completely redesigned and moved to a new architecture. The main purpose of this change is to eliminate Finder-related search problems that were experienced from time to time in previous versions. Some users were reporting that Finder was failing to find files, folders, or apps in certain situations. These problems, which occurred especially in systems used for a long time, were among the factors that directly affected the Mac experience.

The new indexing infrastructure is aimed to provide faster and more reliable results. Apple has not shared technical details yet. Despite this, the company emphasizes that the search mechanism running in the background has been completely renewed. This approach is expected to positively impact not only Finder searches, but also other search functions used throughout the system.
