LEGO may turn iconic Apple iMac G3 model into a set

The LEGO Ideas project, based on the Bondi Blue iMac G3 model introduced by Apple in 1998, continues its evaluation process towards becoming an official LEGO set. LEGO announced that the project was given “Parking Lot” status. This indicates that the design has not been rejected but will be examined in more detail before a final decision is made.

The LEGO Ideas platform allows users to share their own set designs and garner support from other fans. Projects that reach at least 10 thousand supporters are evaluated by the LEGO Review Board. In August 2025, the Bondi Blue iMac G3 model prepared by user “terauma” also exceeded this threshold and managed to enter the official review process.

In the project, Apple’s iconic all-in-one desktop computer is recreated in great detail. By using translucent blue LEGO pieces in the design, the original Bondi Blue color tone is tried to be captured as much as possible. In addition, the characteristic “hockey puck” mouse of the period, the same colored keyboard and connection cables are among the parts of the model. It is noteworthy that the interior includes details representing the cathode ray display (CRT) and the motherboard.

What does the Parking Lot phase mean in the LEGO Ideas process?

The phase, which LEGO calls Parking Lot, means that a project is not excluded from consideration, but the company needs more time to decide. In some cases, this process may also include negotiations with relevant brand owners due to intellectual property rights. When it comes to the iMac G3 project, it is considered that LEGO may be conducting possible licensing negotiations with Apple. The company has not made an official statement on this issue.

The Parking Lot status is not seen as a completely negative development for LEGO Ideas projects. In the past, Downton Abbey and The Old Man and the Sea themed LEGO sets also received production approval after going through the same stage. Despite this, it cannot be said that every project that enters the Parking Lot process turns into an official set. Some designs may be rejected completely after additional review.

The Bondi Blue iMac G3 design was among a total of 75 projects reviewed in LEGO Ideas’ third evaluation period in 2025. At the end of this evaluation, only three projects received direct production approval. Four projects, including the iMac G3, were moved to Parking Lot status. The remaining projects were eliminated as a result of the evaluation.

According to LEGO rules, a project can wait at the Parking Lot stage for a maximum of three evaluation periods. At the end of this period, the design is either approved for production as an official LEGO set or rejected completely. The company will share its final decision regarding the iMac G3 project with the public in the future.

On the other hand, Apple-themed LEGO Ideas projects have been on the agenda before. One of these, the LEGO Apple Store design, went through a similar evaluation process, but ultimately did not receive approval for production. The outcome of the iMac G3 project will become clear in LEGO’s subsequent Ideas evaluation periods. Especially considering the collectible value and nostalgic designs of Apple products, this model is among the projects closely followed by both technology enthusiasts and LEGO collectors.
