iOS 19 update may not come to three iPhone models

The iOS 19 operating system, which is expected to announce Apple at the WWDC event in June 2025, came up with an important claim before it was introduced. The new version will not be compatible with the iPhone XR, iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max models. These models represent the first iPhone series that Apple released in 2018 and works with the A12 Bionic processor. If the claims come true, iOS 19 will not come to these three devices.

This information was shared by an anonymous X (formerly called Twitter) account, known for its proximity to Apple. The account in question, in the past with the leaks of Apple software attracted attention and often gave accurate information. In particular, the fact that the estimates of the iOS 18 on the list of compatible devices last year make this last claim strong. Nevertheless, the fact that the source is not official necessitates a cautious approach.

The old models may not be included in the support list of iOS 19

If the claims are made, the iOS 19 updates will start from the iPhone 11 series. This list covers all of the iPhone 12, 13, 14 and 15 series. In addition, the iPhone 16 models that have not yet been introduced with the 2nd and 3rd generation iPhone SE devices will be able to benefit from the update. In contrast, the support for the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max will end.

In addition, a similar situation may be on the iPad side. Allegedly, the 7th generation iPad model, which was released in 2019, will not receive the iPados 19 update. This model was Apple’s last iPad series running with the A10 Fusion chip. Failure to be included in the update may indicate that hardware boundaries are no longer sufficient.

In addition, Apple’s update policy had shown similar trends in the past. Equipped devices are usually excluded after a few major updates. The iPhone 6S and the first generation iPhone SE models, which can receive updates up to iOS 16, can be shown as examples of this situation. Apple has kept these devices up to date for a long time, but did not give further support due to performance limits.

In any case, the information that iOS 19 will not be compatible with these three models is not yet confirmed. In the past, similar contradictory information was reflected to the public. For example, in another report published by IPHONESOFT in December 2024, it was claimed that all devices that support iOS 18 could operate iOS 19. The information that will become clear among such different reports is always based on Apple’s official announcements.

However, the devices that will be out of support will not be completely deprived of updates. Apple continues to offer intermediate updates, such as iOS 16.7.x versions, including safety and error fixes to older devices. As a matter of fact, the iOS 16.7.11 update, which was released last day, introduced critical security corrections for devices such as iPhone 8 and iPhone X. This shows that Apple does not completely forget devices that do not support new versions.

On the other hand, it is not always explained which hardware updates of Apple’s software updates. However, processor power, ram capacity and long -term performance are at the center of these decisions. The fact that the A12 Bionic processor models will be out of support may mean that this chip is no longer appropriate for Apple’s software vision. This may indicate that in the future, Apple will center devices with faster and more powerful chipsets.

The WWDC25 event, which will take place in June for exact information about iOS 19’s support list, should be expected. Apple will share all the details of the new operating systems and the compatible device list with the public. Users will be able to clearly learn after this official statement whether their devices will be supported. Such allegations put forward until then should be evaluated only for information purposes.
