Instructions to show the Chrome Downloads bar from the bottom as before

Google’s popular internet browser Chrome constantly offers new updates to its users. These updates usually aim to improve user experience, but sometimes they can leave users in a difficult situation. Here are the details of such a situation.

A new problem: Where is the downloads bar?

Earlier this month, Google made a number of changes to its Chrome internet browser. One of these changes was to move notifications of downloaded files from the bottom bar of the browser to the top right of the address bar. This arrangement may have been welcomed by some users, but not everyone was happy with this change.

Many users have a habit of clicking on download links at the bottom of the Chrome screen, and it may take them a while to get used to the new download tray. This may be an inconvenience for some users.

Solution to the problem: Restore the Downloads bar in Chrome

This fix, available on the Google Chrome Help site, has worked for many users. Here are the steps:

  1. Type chrome://flags/#download-bubble in the Chrome address field.
  2. Find the “Enable download bubble” option highlighted in yellow.
  3. Click “Disabled” in the drop-down menu on the right.
  4. Click the “Relaunch” button at the bottom of the screen.

When Chrome restarts, the download icon in the top right will disappear and when you download a file, the download bar will appear at the bottom of your window as before.

Since this is an experimental flag, Google may remove this feature in the future.

These simple steps will allow Chrome users to get back into their downloading habits.
