Instagram offers the ability to add songs to profiles

Instagram is announcing a new feature today that allows users to add their favorite songs to their profiles. This innovation is reminiscent of a feature from the popular social media platform Myspace in the 2000s, but with significant differences.

Instagram’s new feature allows users to personalize their profiles. Users can go to the profile editing page and choose a song from Instagram’s licensed music library. The selected song will be featured in the profile’s bio section, where other users will be able to play and pause it. However, unlike Myspace, these songs will not play automatically; those who want to listen to the song will have to start the track manually.

Instagram introduced this feature in collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, one of the leading names in the pop music world. Following Carpenter’s song “Espresso,” which received great attention this summer, “Taste,” an unreleased song from her new album “Short n’ Sweet,” was featured on her official Instagram profile. This is an important step for users to experience this new feature for the first time. The song will be available to listen to only on Carpenter’s Instagram profile until Friday, the album’s release date.

The song adding feature allows users to choose a 30-second clip from Instagram’s music library. This creates a new area on their profiles where users can reflect their own style and tastes. The feature is similar to the music used in Stories and Reels, but this time it is integrated into profiles.

In addition, there are a few hidden features that have been added to Instagram specifically for Carpenter’s new album. For example, temporary Notes messages will turn light blue when certain keywords or icons like the coffee cup emoji are used. There’s also a chat theme with a lipstick smudge pattern that’s unique to Carpenter’s album. Small touches like these show off Instagram’s commitment to integrating music and pop culture into the platform.

This new feature from Instagram reiterates the impact of music on social media. Users will be able to express themselves through songs and further personalize their profiles. This innovation is among the steps Instagram is taking to expand its music-focused features and further diversify users’ social media experiences. In the future, it is expected that such personalization features will be further developed and expanded across the platform.
