Huawei announced earlier this month that it would introduce its new smartwatch called the Watch GT 5 on Thursday, September 19, and shared the first images of the device’s design. However, it is clear that there are no major design changes compared to the Watch GT 4. After the render images of the new model were leaked, a short unboxing video has now been released.
The watch continues the brand’s classic octagonal case and circular graduated bezel design. This new model will reportedly be available in two sizes: 46mm and 42mm. This means the smaller option will be one millimeter wider than the previous generation’s 41mm size. The Watch GT 5’s OLED screen sizes are expected to remain the same, meaning they will be 1.43 inches and 1.32 inches respectively.
The real eye-catcher is Huawei’s TruSense health monitoring system, which will measure heart rate, SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation) and respiratory rate, as well as track blood pressure and body temperature. Previous Huawei watches have featured these features, but the sensors and algorithms have been further improved in this generation.
The Huawei Watch GT 5, and even the recently leaked Huawei Watch D2, may be the first watches to feature the TruSense system. A note in the unboxing video notes that it features Huawei’s first 12-channel sensor and a new glass back that better blocks ambient light. Ambient light could prevent optical sensors from collecting accurate data.
The unboxing video was published on Bilibili, a popular Chinese video sharing platform.
Other products will be introduced with Huawei Watch GT 5
Meanwhile, the event on September 19 will also introduce a Huawei MatePad model with a Tandem OLED PaperMatte display, which is expected to be a different version of the MatePad Pro 12.2 that was launched in China in August.
