Huawei has officially confirmed that it will introduce the new generation of the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, one of the most extraordinary models in its laptop product range, at the event to be held on August 5. While the company offered the first look at the design of the new model with the promotional images shared on China’s social media platform Weibo, it also announced that the device will gain pen support and come with the new Kirin X90 Plus processor. The MateBook Pro S model, which stands out with its ultra-light structure, is also expected to be announced at the same event.
The first shared images show that the new MateBook Fold will be offered in three different color options: white, beige and black. While the glossy surface frame and hinge design is preserved, the patterned structure of the foldable stand on the back reveals a different appearance compared to the previous generation. Huawei aims to maintain the premium feel of the device with these changes on the design side. In addition, the general form factor maintains its foldable screen-centric structure as in the previous model.
MateBook Fold will now also offer pen support
One of the most striking innovations of the new generation will be that the 18-inch foldable touch screen will now have pen support. This way, users will be able to take handwritten notes, draw directly on the screen, or benefit from more precise input methods in compatible applications. Huawei has not yet shared technical details such as the pen model or pressure sensitivity to be used. Despite this, pen support is expected to strengthen usage scenarios especially focused on productivity and content production.
On the hardware side, the company confirmed that the HiSilicon Kirin X90 processor in the current model will be replaced by the new Kirin X90 Plus platform. According to the information shared by Huawei, the new ARM-based processor will provide approximately 25 percent higher performance compared to the previous generation. Although it is not yet disclosed in which workloads the performance increase is achieved, it is expected to provide a more fluid experience in multitasking, office applications and artificial intelligence-supported operations. While Huawei has recently been focusing more on its own hardware and software solutions in its computers, this model is expected to be one of the products that strengthen the company’s ARM-based ecosystem.
On the other hand, no major changes are expected on the screen side. Leaks and the first information shared by Huawei show that the LTPO AMOLED panel will retain the technical features of the previous model. While the screen in question offers a resolution of 3296 x 2472 pixels, it reaches 700 nits typical brightness and 1600 nits peak brightness in HDR content. Thanks to LTPO technology, the ability to dynamically adjust the refresh rate according to the usage scenario will continue to provide advantages in terms of both fluency and energy consumption.
One of the most striking features of MateBook Fold, its flexible usage structure, is also preserved in the new model. When the device is folded in half, the upper part of the screen can be used as approximately 13 inches and the physical keyboard can be placed at the bottom. Weighing approximately 1.16 kilograms, the laptop reaches dimensions close to a traditional 13-inch class laptop when folded. For users who do not want to carry a physical keyboard, the lower part of the screen can also be used as a virtual keyboard and touch trackpad. This structure makes the device a hybrid option that combines both tablet and laptop experience.
At Huawei’s event on August 5, details such as the price of the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, memory and storage options, and whether it will be offered to global markets are expected to be clarified.
