Huawei and Vivo sign global licensing agreement

Huawei signed a cross-licensing agreement with Vivo, also a Chinese smartphone manufacturer. A month ago, Nokia signed a similar agreement with Vivo. Under the agreement, Vivo will pay Huawei for certain 5G technologies. Thus, it will be possible for Vivo to operate in countries where Huawei owns certain 5G patents.

Alan Fan, top manager of Huawei’s Intellectual Property Department, said the agreement reflects “the two companies’ mutual respect for the value of each other’s patents.” It was also stated that this agreement paved the way for the two companies to work together in the future.

Fan also added that the two companies jointly fund research and are committed to standardizing and sharing the fruits of innovation. Vivo has not yet made a statement on the subject.

Huawei also signed a patent agreement with Amazon

This is the second major deal Huawei signed within the week. The company also signed a similar agreement with Amazon. Thanks to this agreement, it will be possible for Amazon to use patented Wi-Fi and video playback technologies on a global scale.
