How to burn a CD or DVD in Windows 11 with your data or photos

Let’s explain to you how to burn a CD or DVD with your data on your PC with Windows 11, so you can use it as another storage unit. Today the most convenient is a USB, but there may come a time when you want to play data on an old device that doesn’t have it, and you prefer to use a CD or DVD.

The good news is that for this you will not need to install anything nor use any third-party software, since Windows 11 allows you to do everything internally. You will even be able to add the files to the CD from the file explorer.

To do

The first thing you have to do is put the CD or DVD in your Windows PC, either in an internal drive or in an external one that you have to connect to the device. When you do, Windows will notice that you have inserted a CD or DVD, and ask you what to do. Choose the option of Burn files to disk when the dialog appears.

Next you have to choose how to use the disk. You can use it as a USB flash drive, with which all devices compatible with the LFS file system can read the data. But if you are going to use it to play content on non-compatible players or old computers, you can use it as a CD or DVD player. The bad thing here is that the recording will close the disk, and you will not be able to continue recording once you finish.

When you choose the option you want, Windows will format the CD or DVD. In my case, I have chosen to use it as a USBsince I am going to read the data on other computers with versions of Windows after XP.
