HMD Fusion 2 will shape the next generation Android experience with its modular structure

HMD brought a different approach to modular phones with the Fusion model it introduced last year. Now, details about the brand’s new model, HMD Fusion 2, have emerged before the official launch.

New leaks show that the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor will be at the heart of the device. This processor targets users in the middle segment who prioritize performance balance. On the screen side, the OLED panel with a size of 6.58 inches, Full HD + resolution and 120Hz refresh rate attracts attention. It is stated that the contrast and color accuracy of this panel are kept at a high level to improve image quality. On the other hand, compared to LCD panels, a more delicate balance has been established in terms of energy efficiency.

Modular structure will be more functional with HMD Fusion 2

Looking at the camera features, it is stated that the device will have a main sensor with 108 megapixel resolution and OIS support. This sensor makes it possible to take more stable images, especially in low-light environments. The need for ultra-wide-angle shooting is met by a second 8-megapixel camera. Thanks to this setup, users will be able to produce high-quality photos not only for social media content but also for moments that need to be documented. At this point, the impact of the software on camera performance seems to be decisive.

Among the audio features of the device, dual speakers stand out. This system enriches the movie and music experience by providing stereo sound. The fact that the 3.5 mm headphone jack has been preserved is a positive detail, especially for users who prefer classic audio equipment. In addition to all this, the device comes with IP65 certification and is resistant to dust and splashes. Such physical endurance features increase the feeling of confidence in daily use.

Thanks to Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC support, the device also meets current standards in terms of connectivity. The new connection interface, called POGO Pin 2.0, provides more stable communication between the device and modular accessories. This system makes not only data transfer but also energy transfer more stable. It does not go unnoticed that there has been a noticeable technical improvement at this point compared to the previous model. Despite everything, the fact that this connection system is not compatible with previous generation accessories may cause problems for some users.

One of the most prominent aspects of HMD Fusion 2 seems to be the Smart Outfits Gen 2 accessories it will bring with it. New generation modules include Casual Outfit with kickstand, Wireless Charge Outfit with wireless charging support and impact-resistant Rugged Outfit. In addition, there is a Gaming Outfit specifically for gamers, a Camera Grip Outfit that offers better camera control, and a special module with a QR/barcode reader function. The mini projection module, called Smart Projector Outfit, turns the device into not only a phone but also a portable presentation tool. Among the modules, alternatives that aim to increase user experience, such as Flashy Outfit and Speaker Outfit, also stand out.

However, it is reported that the new Smart Outfits Gen 2 accessories cannot be used on the first generation Fusion model. This means that those who used Fusion before will not be able to use their existing accessories with the new model. However, considering the advanced infrastructure offered by POGO Pin 2.0, it can be said that this decision stems from a technical necessity. On the other hand, the variety and functionality of new accessories seem to balance this incompatibility. User expectations have also begun to take shape in this direction.

Despite these developments on the hardware side, it is not yet clear what path HMD will follow regarding software support. The device is expected to offer long-term support for Android updates. However, the delays experienced in previous models bring about some hesitations in this regard. The speed and stability of software updates are among the most important factors that will directly affect the user experience. However, the interaction between the modular structure and the software will also be closely monitored.

The official launch date of HMD Fusion 2 still remains uncertain. However, the leaked information shows that the device will have a flexible structure not only in terms of hardware but also in terms of usage scenarios. Thanks to the modular structure, the device is aimed to become a versatile tool rather than one that serves a single purpose. This structure can be a remarkable alternative, especially for users looking for functionality and customizability.
