HMD quietly updated the Arc series in the entry segment. Announced by the company, HMD Arc 2 does not bring major design or hardware changes compared to the first generation model, but it comes with a more updated processor. The phone, running Android 14 Go, continues to appeal to users looking for an affordable smartphone while maintaining hardware features for basic needs.
At first glance, one of the most obvious differences between Arc 2 and the previous model is the new color options. In addition, most of the technical features of the device are preserved. While there is a 6.52 inch IPS LCD screen on the front, it offers HD + resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate. These screen features offer a structure that is frequently preferred in entry-level phones that target daily use, social media and basic multimedia needs.
HMD Arc 2 comes with a more efficient Unisoc T603 processor
The most striking change of the new model is on the processor side. HMD Arc 2 is powered by the Unisoc T603 platform, which is considered an improved version of the Unisoc SC9863A used in the first generation. Developed with a 12 nm manufacturing process, this chipset offers higher energy efficiency than the previous generation and has an operating frequency of up to 1.8 GHz. Despite this, the general usage scenario of the device does not change and it continues to offer an experience focusing on basic applications and daily operations.
The processor is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. On the storage side, there are two different options: 64 GB and 128 GB. In addition, maintaining microSD card support provides an additional advantage for users who want to expand their storage space later.
There is no significant change on the camera side. While there is a single 13-megapixel camera on the back, there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera placed in the waterdrop notch on the front. Considering the hardware structure, it seems that the photographic performance of the device is aimed at daily use and basic shooting needs.
Battery capacity is also kept at the same level as the previous model. HMD Arc 2 comes with a 5,000 mAh battery and offers 10 W wired charging support. In addition, the preservation of the USB-C port and 3.5 mm headphone jack continues to provide practical use for users who prefer to use wired accessories.
HMD Arc 2 will be available in two different color options: dark blue and golden beige. It was announced that the device will first hit the shelves in the Thai market on July 20. While the starting price is determined as 2,990 Thai baht, this amount corresponds to approximately 4230 TL with the current exchange rate.
When the technical features offered are evaluated, it seems that HMD Arc 2 has switched to a more efficient platform on the processor side, rather than adding comprehensive innovations to the previous model. The major protection of basic components such as the screen, camera and battery does not change the position of the device in the entry segment. Despite this, with its more up-to-date chipset and Android 14 Go version, Arc 2 continues to be among the affordable smartphone options for basic needs.
