Grok is on its way to Apple CarPlay

While the support for artificial intelligence-supported chat applications on the Apple CarPlay side is expanding, it seems that the new application to join this field will be Grok. A CarPlay-specific component has already been included in the iPhone app for Grok, developed by xAI and linked to Elon Musk’s initiatives. This development indicates that CarPlay support will be offered soon, although the application is not yet active.

The CarPlay interface in the current iPhone application is not yet functional. When the application is opened, users are greeted only with the message “Grok Voice mode coming soon to CarPlay”. This statement clearly reveals that an experience focused specifically on voice interaction is planned. It is known that Grok is already offered as an integrated feature in Tesla vehicles. Despite this, CarPlay support means access to a much wider vehicle ecosystem outside of Tesla and significantly increases the application’s usage area.

Artificial intelligence competition between Grok and CarPlay is expanding

Apple’s CarPlay platform has recently started to support artificial intelligence-based applications such as ChatGPT and Perplexity. With the addition of Grok to this list, in-car information access and interaction styles are diversifying. Users will be able to get information, ask questions and perform different tasks more easily via voice commands while driving. Despite this, the impact of such systems on driving safety and the potential for distraction remain a matter of debate.

On the other hand, on the Google front, a direct CarPlay integration signal has not yet been given for Gemini. On the other hand, the company’s artificial intelligence models are expected to contribute to the Siri infrastructure with iOS 27 within the year. It is said that Apple is also working on a standalone Siri application and that it can be offered compatible with CarPlay. Such a scenario could also make solutions built into the Apple ecosystem more visible in the in-car experience.

In addition, it remains unclear whether the XChat application, which was recently announced for the X platform, will also gain CarPlay support. However, the progress of Grok integration offers signs that other services belonging to the X ecosystem may expand in a similar direction. While the number of applications running on CarPlay is increasing in the current table, users’ preferences are also shaped in line with this diversity.

Grok’s arrival to CarPlay stands out as a step that will make in-car artificial intelligence use more accessible. Despite this, factors such as the actual performance of the application, the quality of voice interaction and the extent to which it will adapt to the CarPlay interface will only become clear after official use begins. In this process, the balance of user experience and security is among the main topics that developers should focus on.
