Google rolled out its AI-powered search summary feature in more than 100 countries this week. However, this feature is not yet active in Turkey. AI (Artificial Intelligence)-supported search summaries, which were first introduced in the USA in May 2024, aim to provide users with faster and more understandable information. This feature, which is not yet active in some countries besides Turkey, has been made available in various countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Colombia, Chile, Philippines and Nigeria.
Google’s AI Overviews feature provides users with more effective information access with automatically generated summaries in search results in supported countries. The feature can provide a direct summary in the searched language; For example, when a search is made in Spanish in the United States, the result is displayed as a summary in Spanish. This aims to enable users to have a more inclusive search experience by overcoming the language barrier.
How does Google’s artificial intelligence-supported search summary feature work?
This artificial intelligence-based feature offers concise and understandable summaries to help users understand complex topics faster. Supported languages include a wide range of languages such as English, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. In this way, users in many countries can access summaries in their native languages. With this feature, Google has established a structure at the top of the search results that directly summarizes the subject and aims to attract the attention of users.
Apart from AI-powered summaries, Google has also developed a more specific source notation system in these summaries. Users can see which websites contributed to the information in the summaries and can more clearly evaluate the accuracy of the sources. This system stands out as a step towards increasing the accuracy of information.
Google has started showing ads within AI summaries on mobile devices for users in the US. But for countries outside the US, Google states that ads will appear in reserved areas throughout the page rather than appearing directly in AI summaries. This is considered a step taken to create more advertising space without disrupting the user experience.
While the absence of ads in AI summaries makes it easier for users to access information with less distraction, the presentation of ads in regular areas throughout the page in these countries ensures that the search results remain in a format that does not disturb the user. It is a matter of curiosity what strategy Google will follow in this regard and whether it will make changes to ad placement in other countries.
When will users in Turkey be able to benefit?
This new feature of Google is not yet available in Turkey and Google has not announced an exact date on this matter. On the other hand, the rapid spread of artificial intelligence-supported search summaries around the world strengthens the possibility that this feature may soon be active in Turkey. Technology followers and users are eagerly waiting for when Google will offer this feature in Turkey.
As a result, Google’s AI briefs stand out as a big step towards speeding up access to information and making the user experience more efficient. However, it seems that users in some regions such as Türkiye will have to wait for this advanced search experience for now.
