Google will summarize emails in Gmail with Gemini

Google is now introducing its artificial intelligence assistant called Gemini to Gmail users. The company also places Gemini in the sidebar in its apps like Docs, Sheets, and Presentations.

Gmail uses the Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which has a longer context window and more advanced reasoning. It’s possible to get support from Gemini to summarize an email thread, suggest replies, help draft an email, or perform an intelligent search for specific information in emails.

Questions that can be asked to Gemini are exemplified by Google as follows: “What was the PO number of my agency?” and “When is the next team meeting?”. Gemini can answer these questions without leaving Gmail.

Google will offer other features to Gmail users with Gemini

Starting today, Gemini can also be used in the Gmail app on Android and iOS to analyze email threads and see a summarized view of highlights. The main reason for the improvement is to help people pass the time reading long email threads on a smaller screen. Another feature called Contextual Smart Reply and Gmail Q&A will also be available for mobile devices soon.

It is worth noting that this feature is available to Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-ons, and Google One AI Premium.
