Google officially showed the Pixel 11 Pro model for the first time with a short promotional video before the hardware event it will hold on August 12. While the company largely revealed the design of the phone in the video, it also included a previously unseen circular indicator on the camera bar. Although Google does not explain what this new element does, the phrase “the next obvious step” used in the title of the video increases expectations for a new feature.
The voiceover in the video reminds that users access Google services such as Gmail, Google Maps, Search, Calendar and Gemini through their smartphones. Despite this, the company directs the main focus of the promotion to the rear camera design of the new Pixel 11 Pro. The colorful and rotating circular indicator positioned next to the sensors on the device, which protects the triple camera system, stands out as the most striking detail of the video. Google has not shared any technical information about the function of this part.
Pixel 11 Pro camera bar may point to different usage scenarios
Although there is no official statement about the colorful circular indicator shown by Google, different possibilities are being talked about in technology circles. While the visual design reminds the rotating colorful standby icon on Apple computers, it is considered that it may be a new system that visually notifies the user of an operation taking place on the device. Especially considering Gemini’s artificial intelligence features running on the device, it is possible that the indicator will provide information about the transaction status or certain artificial intelligence functions.
In addition, some previous rumors suggested that Google was working on a color-coded notification system similar to the Glyph interface on Nothing Phone models. If these claims are true, Pixel 11 Pro can use the light indicator on the camera bar for different purposes such as notifications, charging status or application alerts. However, at the current stage, none of these scenarios have been confirmed by Google.
On the other hand, the phrase “the next obvious step” used in the video may not only refer to artificial intelligence features. Since Google has recently accelerated its investments in the Android XR platform and mixed reality technologies, there are also evaluations that the new indicator may be designed to support some experiences related to this ecosystem. Still, the company is not expected to share more details before the event.
Leaks about the Pixel 11 series to date show that the Pro model will come with a 6.3-inch screen that can reach 3,600 nits peak brightness. It is also claimed that the device will be powered by Google’s new generation Tensor G6 processor. Leaked retail listings indicate that the model will be offered for sale in three different color options combining pink-beige, forest green and grey-purple tones.
It is not yet clear what hardware improvements will be made on the camera side. Since Google has focused on software-based image processing technologies as well as hardware in recent years, it seems likely that artificial intelligence-supported camera features will come to the fore in the new model. However, due to artificial intelligence applications increasing memory, storage and processor costs, there are expectations that the Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5 may be sold at higher prices compared to the models introduced last year.
Google will announce all the details about the Pixel 11 family at the official event on August 12. New information to emerge by that date may provide a clearer picture, especially about the function of the mysterious indicator in the camera bar and the artificial intelligence-focused innovations of Pixel 11 Pro.
