Google responded to Japan’s accusations: “We are disappointed”

Google has recently been facing allegations of restrictive practices around the world. It is said that as a result of investigations carried out in many countries, the giant technology company may be forced to make significant changes in its business model. The Japan Competition Commission’s recent stop order against Google is at the center of these discussions.

The Japan Competition Commission had previously made similar accusations, claiming that Google was hindering fair competition. The institution had criticized Google, especially on the grounds that it made it difficult for Yahoo Japan to generate revenue from targeted search ads. This new suspension order is interpreted as an indication that the Japan Competition Commission has toughened its stance against Google’s antitrust violations.

Google is developing various defense strategies against increasing accusations. The company even offered to offer multiple search engine options on iPhone and iPad to smooth the deal with Apple. However, this deal has been heavily criticized for the high payment arrangement in exchange for Google remaining the default search engine in Apple’s Safari browser. On the other hand, Apple supported Google by defending this cooperation.

Google did not share details about the allegations in the suspension order issued by the Japan Competition Commission, but emphasized that the proposed solutions were not taken into account. The company stated that it always attaches importance to user preference in Japan and stated that it will present its defenses in detail in court.

Google is also under great pressure in the USA

Prosecutors in the USA also took action with similar accusations against Google. Initially, it was requested that the company divest the Android operating system, but this request was later changed to leave the Chrome browser from the company. Google argues that the effects that demanding such radical changes in the business model will have in the technology world are ignored. The company draws attention to the rapid changes in the sector and recommends shortening the duration of the imposed restrictions.

The upcoming court process is being followed with great interest both in the USA and internationally. In particular, the consequences of Google losing control over the Chrome browser are of critical importance for the industry.

Google is under serious pressure in both Japan and the USA. The company’s struggle to preserve its current business model is an important test not only for itself, but also for the future of the technology industry.
