Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL come with Tensor G4 processor and powerful AI experience

The Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL were officially revealed at the Made by Google event today. For the first time, the internet giant is offering its Pro phones in more than one model.

The Pixel 9 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch display. Both phones feature what’s called a 120Hz “Super Actua” display. The Pixel 9 series features a refined design over the Pixel 8, which focuses on the camera in particular, with an updated camera bar and a sleek, durable design. The phones come in four color options with flat edges and matte finishes. These are Obsidian, Porcelain, Hazelnut, and Rose Quartz.

At the heart of both smartphones is the Tensor G4 processor. With this new processor, which allows Gemini Nano to work locally with multimodality, the Pixel 9 Pro can analyze text, images, and sounds. Tensor G4 is accompanied by 16 GB of RAM, while storage options are listed as 128, 256, 512 GB, and 1 TB.

The Pixel 9 Pro has a 4700 mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 5060 mAh battery. Google also says that thanks to 45W fast charging support, both phones can be charged to 70 percent in just 30 minutes.

The Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL introduce a number of AI features under the “Google AI” banner, including Gemini Live, which lets you have a “free-flowing conversation” with an advanced voice assistant. The feature also includes 10 new voices to customize the experience when using hands-free commands directly with your device or through the Pixel Buds.

Pixel Studio, a new image editing app for the Pixel 9 series, is also waiting for users on the phones. Using the Imagen3 text-to-image model, you can create and edit images using commands to add a creative touch to photos and downloaded images.

In addition to the improved Clear Calling feature on the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, Google also highlights the new Call Notes feature, which sends you a private summary and full transcript of your last phone conversation when you hang up on calls that last 30 seconds or longer.

Pixel Screenshots, on the other hand, uses Gemini and other on-device algorithms to pull context from any of your saved screenshots. For example, the Pixel 9 Pro answers the question, “What was Joe’s Wi-Fi password?”

Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL will also support satellite SOS in the US. The feature connects to and activates low-orbit satellites to communicate with emergency services via satellite in areas where cellular service is limited or unavailable. The feature will be available at no additional cost and without carrier restrictions for the first two years.

The Pixel 9 series also features an all-new Pixel Weather app that delivers even more accurate weather forecasts with AI support. Running natively, Gemini Nano will also be able to prepare custom AI weather reports at startup or throughout the day.

The Pixel 9 series comes with Android 14 installed. Both smartphones will receive operating system updates and new features for seven years. Android 15 is also expected to be rolled out in the coming months.

The updated Camera Bar carries over the same camera systems from the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL, each with a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide, and an improved 48MP 5x telephoto zoom lens that can go up to 30x. On the front, users are greeted by a 42-megapixel camera.

How much should I pay for the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL?

The Google Pixel 9 Pro will be sold at prices starting at $999, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL will be sold at $1099. The Pixel 9 Pro XL will be available on August 22, and the Pixel 9 Pro will be available on September 4.
