Google One Lite brings a more affordable cloud storage option

Google is preparing to offer a more affordable Google One subscription option for Android users. This new option, discovered in the code of the latest update of the Google Photos app, is called “Google One Lite.” This development points to a strong connection with Google’s photo services.

What will the Google One Lite subscription offer?

While exact details are not yet known, Google One Lite is expected to be positioned as a more budget-friendly option compared to the current Basic, Premium, and AI Premium plans. This new plan may offer less storage or have more limited family sharing options than the current Basic plan. The current Google One plans and features are listed as follows:

  • Free: 15GB storage
  • Basic: 100GB of storage for Photos, Drive, and Gmail. Family sharing for up to five members.
  • Premium: 2TB storage, all the benefits of Basic, plus Google Photos editing tools, Google Workspace premium features, and 10% cash back on Google Store purchases.
  • AI Premium: 2TB storage, all the benefits of Premium, and access to Gemini Advanced AI features.

Google One Lite is expected to bring radical changes to the current pricing structure. This new plan could offer the same price and benefits as the current Basic plan, while other plans may include price increases or additional features. These changes could aim to better address the different needs of users.

Another possibility is that Google One Lite will be offered with upcoming smartphones. For example, it could be offered to users with devices like the Pixel 9. This could be a strategic move by Google to attract users to the Google One ecosystem. New device purchases could offer benefits such as limited cloud storage or access to new features in Google Photos.
