Google Maps Integration Started to Garmin Smart Hours

An expected feature for Garmin users has finally been implemented. The Google Maps application can now work integrated with certain Garmin smart watch models. In this way, users can get direction recipes directly from their wrists. The obligation to look at the phone screen constantly disappears.

The application can be downloaded free of charge via Garmin’s Connect IQ Store platform. For now, this system, which is only compatible with Android phones, has not yet provided support for iOS users. Your Garmin watch is working synchronized with the Google Maps application on Android. In other words, you determine the route over the phone, you follow the routing over the time.

Google maps transmit direction information to the Garmin Clock screen with vibration

When the user sets a location on Google Maps, the clock automatically detects it. When the direction change is required, the clock gives a light vibration warning. So the mobile phone can stay in your pocket. Although your eyes are not constantly on the screen, you can proceed without losing your way.

The direction recipes that appear on the clock screen are presented simple and functionally. If you wish, you can see the next three aspects in advance by opening the application. This feature is particularly working hard while cycling or walking. In addition, your training data is not interrupted even when the application works in the background.

Garmin is known for its devices designed for sports -oriented use. For this reason, Google maps integration offers practical benefits, especially for outdoor users. Both the direction information and exercise follow -up can be performed at the same time. This makes the user experience more integrity.

For now, only certain Garmin models support this feature. Venu, Forerunner, Vivoactive and Fenix series can be used in some versions of Google maps. Which models are supported can be controlled through the Connect IQ Store. This restriction can be annoying for some users.

The Google Maps application can already be used on Apple Watch and Wear OS devices. These platforms stand out with the support of offline map. The integration of Garmin’s integration has not yet reached this point. However, basic navigation support can be sufficient for daily use.

Although it does not offer offline use, this step of Garmin offers an innovation that directly touches the daily life of its users. Especially at outdoor activities such as jogging, walking or bikes, route tracking can be done over the clock. Thus, users stay in the form of movement and reach their goals more easily. In addition, the risk of disappearance in foreign regions is reduced thanks to its orientation information.

On the other hand, the effect of this integration on battery life is not yet clear. The application will be revealed with user experiences whether the battery consumption has increased while working in the background. However, considering Garmin’s software known for their low power consumption, there is no big problem. Nevertheless, it is useful to check the battery level on long routes.

This step by Garmin’s Google Maps integration makes users use their watches in more scenario. In addition to daily life, Garmin watches are now more functional in travel and outdoor activities.
