Google is preparing to combine Chromeos and Android under one roof

The allegations made at the end of 2024 showed that Google was preparing to integrate Chromeos into Android. This information, which was not confirmed by the company at that time, was now clearly expressed by one of the senior Google executives. The source of the description was Sameer Samat, the head of the Android ecosystem. With this output, the information that remained as a rumor was first official for the first time.

Sameer Samat, Techradar’dan Lance Ulanoff’la meeting, said he wanted to understand the use of desktop devices, he said. For this purpose, Ulanoff’s MacBook Pro, Apple Watch and iPhone used questions about the use. Then Samat made it clear that Chromeos and Android will be united. These sentences revealed Google’s long -term plans on operating systems.

Google focused on developing a new system that offers common experience on different devices

Samat’s statements show that Google focuses not only on mobile devices but also on laptops. The company aims to make the user experience more consistent with the collection of Chromeos and Android in a single system. Thanks to this combination, Android applications are expected to work more naturally on laptops. However, it is aimed to provide a less friction experience when switching between different devices.

Google has already announced that it has integrated some parts of Android core in early 2024 into Chromeos. The aim of this integration was to place artificial intelligence properties faster and directly into systems. Now the scope of this integration is growing. The company is going to completely eliminate the boundaries between the two systems.

The new system is expected to appeal not only technical compatibility but also in terms of hardware. The leaks show that Google is working on a Pixel laptop called “Snowy” code name. It is thought that this device will be at a premium level and may also be one of the first examples of the combined operating system. Google is preparing to shape the software in this direction, taking into account the desktop usage scenarios.

The updates made by Android are also supporting this change. In the first periodic platform version of Android 16, external screens will be available on the desktop features such as multiple window management. These innovations will make Android not only a phone, but also for tablet and laptop devices. Thus, the Android operating system will be made more suitable for desktop habits.

In addition, this combination is expected to create new opportunities for developers. Applications that will work in a single system will be able to offer similar performance on both phones and laptops. This will facilitate the software development process and provide a more determined experience for users. In addition, progress in areas such as data synchronization between devices are envisaged.

Although it takes time to complete the merger, Google’s steps are now felt more concretely. The company is not expected to make new announcements on this issue in the Pixel 10 launch. But towards the end of the year, there is a high probability that more technical details will emerge. Documentation and early versions of this new platform, especially for developer communities, can be an important agenda item.

On the user side, this combination means less operating system distinction and more ease of transition between devices. Application and content compliance will be strengthened between different types of device such as telephone, tablet, laptop. Each device is aimed at a system fiction with each other. Google’s aim is to make different parts of digital life manageable through a single infrastructure.
