Google has released a comprehensive update for Android and Pixel devices. This update aims to improve accessibility features as well as enrich the experience with artificial intelligence-supported applications. In addition, new features specific to Pixel devices make this update more attractive.
One of the most notable innovations of the update is the new subtitle system called “Emotional Subtitles”. This system provides explanations such as (applause) and (laugh) that express not only the spoken words but also the non-spoken moments in the video content. This feature can be used in all areas where subtitles are available, such as social media applications and video messages. Thus, content becomes more accessible for hearing-impaired individuals or users who prefer subtitle support.
Google’s work on accessibility continues with improvements to the Lookout application. Designed for visually impaired or partially sighted individuals, this application helps users better understand their environment by describing objects and photos aloud. With the new update, Lookout’s Image Q&A feature started using Google’s Gemini 1.5 model. This model describes photos in more detail and accuracy. For example, when describing a food photo, instead of just saying “a plate of food”, one can also specify the ingredients.
These improvements are an indication of the importance Google attaches to artificial intelligence-supported accessibility tools. These innovations in Lookout are a continuation of the AI-focused strategies announced by Google at the I/O event held in May.
Pixel device users benefit from special updates especially for the Pixel 9 series. The call scanning feature provides context-based response suggestions for incoming calls, allowing users to respond to phone calls without interfering. This offers a very practical solution for users who want to respond to calls quickly during a busy day.
The Screenshots app has also been made more functional on Pixel devices. Users can convert the screenshots they take into suggested search terms via Gboard or save these images for later use. Additionally, ticket and credit card information received via Google Wallet can now be stored in the Screenshots application. This provides significant convenience in terms of quick access to financial and travel information.
Google also offers general innovations for Android users
There are innovations across Android that interest many users. While Emoji Kitchen offers the opportunity to create stickers with more options on Gboard, the Quick Share feature makes it easier to share photos via QR code. In addition, the scanning mode for receipts and documents in Google Drive has been improved. These new features aim to both improve the daily use experience and increase users’ access to functionality.
This update of Android also brings innovations in device security. The “Identity Check” feature offered on Pixel 6 and later models requires additional authentication when the phone detects a new location or when sensitive settings are wanted to be changed. This feature aims to increase the security of user data.
