Garmin expands app store with new apps and watch faces

Garmin may not have the best third-party app store, but that’s finally changing. You can now make purchases from the Connect IQ Store using Garmin Pay. In addition, the store also features new watch faces and a new GoPro app.

Previously, downloading apps from Garmin’s Connect IQ Store was a seriously tedious process. There was no easy way to install paid apps. Sometimes, even free apps like Spotify could be a pain to download and install.

Another issue with Connect IQ is that there aren’t many apps compared to Google Play or the Apple App Store. While that’s still an issue, it’s now possible to find bigger names on Connect IQ. Disney adds four different face options, including Marvel and Star Wars characters, while Porsche offers three. Golf brand TaylorMade also has a face, as well as a range of space-themed watch faces.

More exciting for the average Garmin user is the new GoPro Camera Control app, which lets you connect a GoPro camera to the watch and stop and start recording or take photos from the watch itself.

Garmin will sell watch faces and apps for $4.99

According to information from Garmin, the suggested retail price for the watch face and apps will be $4.99. It is not unusual for apps and watches to be sold for money. However, it should be noted that $5 is a high price. This high price is a little more noticeable, especially when you consider that Apple, Google and Samsung offer many watch face options for free.
