First details about MediaTek’s new generation processor Dimensity 9600

New claims regarding MediaTek’s upper segment mobile processor series have started to come to the fore on the technology agenda. While rumors about Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 model intensify, information from leak sources points to remarkable technical details for the MediaTek Dimensity 9600. According to information shared by Digital Chat Station, one of the reliable leak sources, MediaTek is planning significant changes in both production technology and processor architecture in this new chipset. In addition, it seems that the company has reconsidered the balance of performance and energy efficiency. Although official confirmation has not yet arrived, the emerging information shows that the mobile processor competition has entered a new phase.

It is stated that the new generation Dimensity 9600 will be developed with TSMC’s 2nm class N2P production process. This production technology offers the potential to both reduce power consumption and increase performance thanks to its smaller transistor structure. In addition, the advanced production process promises a more stable performance, especially in tasks requiring artificial intelligence and high processing power. Despite this, the cost and production difficulties of 2nm production also stand out as a striking factor. On the other hand, how MediaTek will optimize this process will be decisive in terms of final performance results.

Dual main core era coming with MediaTek Dimensity 9600

According to leaks, Dimensity 9600 will have a new core layout of 2 + 3 + 3 on the CPU side. This structure is supported by two “prime”, that is, the highest performance cores, as well as six high-performance cores. Thus, it is stated that MediaTek will switch to a dual main core design for the first time in the Dimensity 9 series. While the previous generation Dimensity 9500 model had a single ultra-performance core, it is noteworthy that this number has been increased to two in the new model. In addition, it is also among the information received that the new architecture is codenamed “Canyon” within the company.

This change aims to provide a more balanced performance, especially in multitasking and processing-intensive applications. In addition, the increasing complexity of artificial intelligence processes makes such architectural changes more critical. However, the impact of more high-performance cores on energy consumption stands out as an element that needs to be carefully evaluated. However, it is aimed to balance this disadvantage with the advanced production process.

On the graphics side, it is stated that Dimensity 9600 will come with a new generation GPU. It is stated that this GPU will support “neural network shader” technology and improve the coordination between the GPU and NPU. Thus, it is aimed to provide both smoother graphics performance and lower power consumption. In addition, it is evaluated that a more efficient experience can be provided, especially in mobile games and artificial intelligence-supported applications.

On the other hand, a similar approach draws attention on the Qualcomm front. It is said that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 model may also switch to a 2+3+3 core layout. However, the fact that Qualcomm uses its own Oryon cores and MediaTek focuses on ARM’s new Cortex-C2 series creates a significant difference between the two companies. This situation causes two different engineering approaches with similar goals to come face to face.

While competition in the mobile processor market is increasingly moving to a more technical level, factors such as production technology and core architecture play a decisive role. With Dimensity 9600, MediaTek seems to have strengthened its performance-oriented approach. In addition, energy efficiency and artificial intelligence optimizations are among the main focus points of new generation processors.
