FairPhone 6 pushes limits in ease of repair

FairPhone 6 has been defined as a telephone that center the concepts of sustainability and user control from the first moment of its release. The biggest detail in the design of the device is that almost all its parts can be replaced by the user thanks to its modular structure. The fact that ifixit gets full marks from the detailed dismantling test reveals how successful this approach is implemented. Moreover, this success is protected, although the design has become more compact.

FairPhone 6 is slightly smaller than its predecessors, but this does not adversely affect repair. On the contrary, it is a great advantage that the device can only be processed with a screwdriver type. The T5 Torx screwdriver is able to open the entire device and the battery can be replaced with only seven screws. The fact that the battery can be easily replaced by the user shows that FairPhone is still on this issue.

FairPhone 6 battery can be changed easily despite screws

Although the battery can no longer be removed without tools, the company offers a technical reason behind this change. Due to the newly designed thin battery structure, the use of screws is preferred. Nevertheless, FairPhone says that it only takes two minutes to turn off the device and restart the new battery in the video it shares. This reveals that the process is still quite simple for users.

The adhesive is hardly used in the interior design of the device, which makes it significantly easier for repair processes. The adhesive is only on the motherboard and user intervention is not recommended to this area. All other components-for example USB-C or cameras-can be replaced in a simple way. Thus, sustainability is provided for those who want to use the device for many years.

FairPhone 6’s spare parts support will be provided through both its own official channels and ifixit. Since the back cover of the device is also changed, it is possible to customize with different accessories. Modular accessories can also be available over time through a CMF Phone Pro 2 -like structure. This makes FairPhone 6 not only repaired, but also a flexible platform.

All these design preferences have given IP55 certificate to FairPhone 6. Although this level is slightly behind compared to other water -resistant devices on the market, it is quite successful considering that screws are used instead of adhesive. Ifixit’s inclusion in this feature shows that the physical integrity of the device is well protected despite technical difficulties. Durability is presented in a balanced manner with repair.

Another remarkable advantage offered by FairPhone 6 is the length of software support. The company undertakes to offer a seven -year Android update to the device and a safety patch for eight years. The fact that it is guaranteed for five years and the loyalty program, which encourages users to use their devices for a long time, supports this continuity. For users, not only physical repair, but also digital sustainability is promised.

However, there are some sacrifices on the technical specifications. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s 3 chipset used on the device offers a mid -range experience in terms of performance. The USB-C port only supports the USB 2.0 speed and can be limiting for data transfer. The rear camera is a dual sensor but shows the average level of performance.

In addition to all these, a more impressive choice was made about the screen. The LTPO OLED panel, which has a 6.3-inch variable refreshing rate, is one of the prominent features in this segment. In terms of visual experience, a level to satisfy the user is offered. Thus, some of the technical cons are balanced with screen quality.

FairPhone 6 is currently offered to the user with a price tag of 599 euros in Europe. In the United States, it has been opened to pre -order at a price of $ 899 over Murena. The US version of the device comes with the special version of Android’s Google Services /E /OS. Shipments are expected to begin in August.
