Enable this setting to unlock iPhone Duo with Apple Watch

Instead of the iPhone Duo’s Touch ID sensor, you can also unlock the phone with a compatible Apple Watch. Apple’s Turkish user manual explains the hours and setting path required for this option. The watch needs to be on your wrist, unlocked and close to the phone. Just owning an Apple Watch is not enough for the feature to work on its own.

This method appeals to those who want to bypass the Lock Screen without touching the fingerprint reader on the side button every time. Doesn’t add Face ID to iPhone Duo. The appropriate nearby clock takes care of the authentication. This distinction becomes especially meaningful when you hold the phone with different hands or do not want to reach the side button.

Apple lists the supported models as Series 9 and later, Ultra 2 and later, and SE 3. Just because an older Apple Watch shares the same family name doesn’t mean it’s on this list. Therefore, check your watch model first. Do not replace different user experiences on the Internet with the official compatibility list.

Another condition is that the watch must have a password. If the Apple Watch is locked, not on your wrist, or not near the iPhone Duo, you cannot use this method. Therefore, we are not talking about a general control feature that unlocks the phone remotely while the watch is on the table. In addition to installation, the situation at the time of use is also decisive.

Turn on Apple Watch in the Touch ID & Passcode menu

Open Settings on iPhone Duo, then enter the Touch ID & Passcode section. After typing your phone passcode, look for Unlock with Nearby Devices below. Enable the Apple Watch option here. If you have more than one paired watch, Apple wants the setting to be turned on separately for each one. Thus, you determine which watch can be used from this screen.

After installation, wear your watch and unlock it. Wake up iPhone Duo by lifting it or tapping the screen. If the phone is folded, opening the body also wakes up the screen. Then swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen. The standard flow described by Apple includes this swipe step; waking up the phone does not mean going to the Home Screen alone.

When the feature doesn’t work, check these conditions in order first. Is the setting on for the correct time, is the watch unlocked, is the watch on your wrist and is it near the phone? This simple check allows you to distinguish between model incompatibility and a defect in use. Then you can use the normal unlocking method with fingerprint or phone password.

Besides, this guide only focuses on unlocking the screen of iPhone Duo. Don’t think of enabling the setting as a blanket authentication permission for all apps, payments, or password-requiring transactions. The convenience it provides in daily use is valid with the supported hours and specified conditions.
