Elon Musk is moving SpaceX and X headquarters to Texas

Elon Musk has announced plans to move the X and SpaceX headquarters from California to Texas. Musk shared the following statements on his X account: “Due to this law and many laws before it that attack both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas.”

Musk is referring to a law signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in California on Monday that bars schools from imposing rules requiring teachers to disclose a student’s gender identity changes without their permission and prohibits retaliation against teachers who refuse to disclose a student’s sexual orientation.

In another post by Musk, it was announced that X’s headquarters, currently in San Francisco, will be moved to Austin, Texas. Previous news had also stated that Musk planned to build a community called “Snailbrook” outside of Austin and also open a university in Austin.

Elon Musk has moved companies before

Elon Musk has recently moved other companies. After a Delaware judge rejected Musk’s $55 billion pay package in January (which shareholders eventually approved), Musk filed to move SpaceX from Delaware to Texas. He also moved Tesla’s headquarters to Texas in 2021 after California health officials shut down Tesla’s Fremont factory amid the Covid pandemic.
