Following the appointment of Ümit Önal as Head of Cyber Security, Türk Telekom made a significant change in the management level. Ebubekir Şahin was appointed as the CEO of the company. Şahin, who serves as the Chairman of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), will lead Türk Telekom’s vision of building Türkiye’s digital future.
In his statement regarding the change, Türk Telekom Chairman İsmail İlhan Hatipoğlu said, “I would like to thank Ümit Önal, who has served as the CEO of Türk Telekom for more than 6 years and who has made great contributions to our company in important milestones of the sector, and wish him success. Türk Telekom will continue to be the flag bearer in the journey of building the digital future of our country under the management of our new CEO Ebubekir Şahin.”
According to the company’s statement, Ebubekir Şahin assumed the position of CEO of Türk Telekom, which has led every period of communication in Türkiye for 185 years, as of October 24, 2025. Drawing attention to the company’s investments and contribution to employment, Hatipoğlu said, “We provide service in every corner of 81 provinces with more than 34 thousand employees. Our investments in the digital future of our country will continue.”
Who is Ebubekir Şahin?
Born in 1974 in Rize’s Çayeli district, Ebubekir Şahin completed his undergraduate education at Gazi University, Faculty of Communication. He completed his master’s degree in Journalism in 2002. Having worked in various positions in the public and media sectors for many years, Şahin held managerial positions in institutions such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Directorate of Security, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Between 2011 and 2014, he served as Deputy General Manager and Deputy General Manager at Anadolu Agency, and then as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies. Şahin, who was elected as a member of RTÜK by the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 2017, was appointed as the President of the Supreme Council in 2019. He was elected to this position for the fourth time in the election held in 2023 and continued his duty.
Ebubekir Şahin, who is married and the father of two children, speaks English. With his experience in telecommunications and media, he is expected to lead the company’s growth strategies in the new period that will shape Türk Telekom’s digitalization vision.
