DRONE DRAWING SYSTEM ON VEHICLE FROM BYD and DJI: Lingyuan

BYD, a electric vehicle manufacturer, has developed a new drone departure system on a new vehicle by cooperating with DJI, one of the leading companies of drone technology. This system, called “Lingyuan, is in line with the tools offered by BYD to the Chinese market and has a price tag of 16,000 Yuan (80,114 TL). The system, announced by the Chinese state media Xinhua, makes it possible for users to throw drones through the vehicle even when they are on the move.

The working principle of the system is quite remarkable. With the command given from the touch screen in the vehicle, the special compartment on the ceiling opens and a landing-rock platform rises. The drone is able to follow the vehicle by taking off from this platform or fly independently on a designated route. In the promotional video, it is seen that the drone can take off even when the vehicle is in motion and can perform follow -up tasks during driving.

According to the Chinese technology news platform Cnevpost, drones integrated into the Lingyuan system can take off and land from a vehicle that moves up to 25 kilometers per hour. In addition, the drone can get away from the vehicle up to two kilometers away and can be automatically rotated as long as it remains within the specified boundary. The maximum tracking rate was announced at 54 kilometers per hour. The Hangar compartment on the vehicle also allows the drone to be automatically charged after use.

Although a DJI Drone was also available in the package with the Lingyuan system, there was no definite information on which model to use. According to the information transmitted by South China Morning Post (SCMP), the promotional video shows that a DJI Air 3S model is used. The system’s software includes a video editing application of DJI and an artificial intelligence -supported image recognition software. In the promotional video, it is stated that the “Artificial Intelligence Stance Recognition” feature is able to take automatic photography around the vehicle. However, there is no clear information as to whether the system can be installed in the vehicle by BYD vehicle owners.

BYD does not work for the first time in terms of integrated drone systems on the vehicle. Previously, the company’s luxury brand Yangwang offered a drone launch platform mounted on ceiling rails in the off-road version of the U8 SUV model. However, this system had a larger and different design compared to Lingyuan.

On the other hand, Lingyuan’s design concept resembles the DJI’s Drone station developed by DJI for industrial use. The Dock 3 stands out as a system designed for power line controls, emergency interventions and similar tasks. DJI Dock 3 was one of the first DJI systems with drone launching. However, when evaluated in terms of price, it is seen that Lingyuan is quite expensive with the price starting from $ 21,059. In addition, the DJI Matrice 4D Drone used in the Dock 3 system is not included in the price.

BYD and DJI are working for fully integrated system

BYD President Wang Chuanfu announced that they have been closely cooperating with DJI at a promotional event in Shenzhen. BYD also introduced a version of the “BAO 8” SUV in the Lingyuan system.

Lingyuan stands out as a new generation system developed under the partnership of BYD and DJI and offering drone use from motion. Such solutions previously developed for industrial applications, Lingyuan and Lingyuan and individual users are also appealing to. It is not yet known whether this system, which is specially offered to the Chinese market, will be offered for sale in different markets in the future.
