Discord has been experimenting with embedding apps and games directly into chats for a while now through its Events feature. The company is now preparing to introduce a special software development kit for developers to join in the chat-based fun.

The Embedded Application SDK, which will be available as of March 18, will make it possible for developers to create experiences embedded in a framework in Discord. According to the information provided by the company, many developers are already eagerly waiting for when they will be able to make their own events ready.

Before this announcement, only some developers could access these tools. Now Discord users will be able to do things like watch YouTube, play poker, and share a whiteboard while participating in a chat. It is not difficult to predict that these experiences will diversify in the coming period.

The platform is also bringing back app rollouts. This program encourages developers to submit app ideas and provides funding of up to $30,000. Last year, Discord funded impressive projects such as a coral reef camera, a city-building simulation and an art portfolio app.

Finally, Discord announced that it is experimenting with technology that allows users to add apps to their accounts, so these experiences will follow them across servers. The beta version of this tool will be released along with the SDK on March 18. The company says users will start seeing apps popping up in “DMs, group chats, and small servers.”
