Claude comes to Apple CarPlay: Voice assistant is now on the car screen

Anthropic added CarPlay support to the iOS application of its artificial intelligence assistant Claude. Thanks to the new feature, drivers can ask questions directly to Claude via voice command via the vehicle screen.

iOS 26.4 or later on iPhone is required for the integration to work; With this release, Apple paved the way for third-party chat bots to be integrated into CarPlay. Claude’s CarPlay interface welcomes the user with the “Start voice chat” screen; From here, a new conversation can be started or previous conversations can be accessed. The interface also includes mute/unmute controls, visual cues that show Claude is listening or responding, and it’s also possible to pause and resume the conversation.

The feature has one important limit: Claude cannot control any functions of the vehicle or iPhone via CarPlay. The assistant is limited to responding to voice questions only, meaning it cannot carry out commands such as starting navigation, sending messages or changing music.

The second major assistant to enter CarPlay after ChatGPT

OpenAI added CarPlay support to the ChatGPT application earlier this year. Claude’s inclusion on this list shows that the use of voice artificial intelligence assistants in the driver’s seat is becoming an increasingly important competitive area for automotive technology companies. Anthropic confirmed that the integration has gone live; The feature is available for all users using the current Claude iOS application.
