ChatGPT Mac app now works more closely with apps

OpenAI has added new features to ChatGPT’s Mac app. The application redefines the role of artificial intelligence in productivity tools with its advanced voice command feature and application integrations. These innovations, specifically aimed at macOS users, aim to streamline daily workflow and make ChatGPT more accessible. The app only works on macOS devices with M1 and newer processors and requires macOS 14.

One of the most notable features of the desktop application is the Advanced Sound Mode. Thanks to this feature, users can interact with ChatGPT by speaking instead of typing. Voice commands provide great convenience, especially when your hands are full or when a task needs to be completed quickly. For example, to write an email or brainstorm an idea, just talk. This feature allows users to complete their work on the same screen without switching between different windows.

ChatGPT collaborates more with other apps

The application is not limited to voice commands only; Thanks to the “Work with Applications” feature, ChatGPT can work integrated with other applications installed on macOS. Users can use ChatGPT for direct assistance, for example, while working on a code editor or documentation application. For example, while working in Warp, a code editing tool, or Apple’s Xcode app, you can engage ChatGPT to decipher the meaning of the code on your screen or get suggestions. Thus, you can proceed more efficiently with the support of artificial intelligence, without getting lost in long code blocks.

This feature is not limited to coding only; Apple Notes can also be used in applications such as Quip and Notion. For Notion users in particular, this means getting creative ideas or resource-based suggestions from ChatGPT when working on a project like vacation planning. AI’s ability to provide contextual insights enables users to complete their projects faster and more effectively.

There’s good news for Windows users, too. OpenAI announced that a desktop application with similar features will be released for the Windows platform in a short time. However, there is no clear information yet about exactly when the Windows version will be released.

This new move by OpenAI aims to transform artificial intelligence from just a chat tool into a much more comprehensive productivity assistant. These integration features of ChatGPT pave the way for artificial intelligence to take more responsibility in daily tasks. This is part of a strategy that OpenAI calls the “agentic” approach; that is, artificial intelligence takes on tasks more actively on behalf of the user and reduces the workload.

In addition to all this, the macOS application manages to offer a smarter and more practical experience by increasing ChatGPT’s proximity to the user. What difference these innovations will make in users’ creative projects, technical work or daily work will be seen more clearly with the adoption rate of the application. Still, it seems likely that these features will make ChatGPT an indispensable tool on desktop devices.
