ChatGPT is here with a voice assistant inspired by the movie “Her”

OpenAI announced that it has developed a new voice assistant that makes a breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence. This assistant has features such as recognizing users' facial expressions and translating spoken languages in real time. This assistant is inspired by the movie “Her” and promises users a more human interaction.

During a livestream on Monday, OpenAI engineers gave a live demonstration of the new features. The assistant, who started with the instruction to increase the richness of expression, suddenly switched to a robotic voice while telling the story, and finally finished the story by singing. He also demonstrated the ability to observe his surroundings through his phone camera and react instantly to what was seen.

ChatGPT's new capabilities

The assistant's voice is reminiscent of the character voiced by Scarlett Johansson in the movie “Her”. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman after the event By sharing a word like “her” on social media drew attention to this similarity. The film focuses on loneliness and the relationships between humans and artificial intelligence, and Altman describes it as his favorite film.

In an interview with The Verge, CTO Mira Murati noted that this voice was not likened to Johansson's, but users were impressed by the voice's personality and tone. This stands out as an indication of ChatGPT's capacity for human-like emotional responses. Compared to ChatGPT's existing voice mode, the new advanced features provide a much more interactive experience.

The new voice assistant features will be available in a limited “alpha” release and will be rolled out to ChatGPT Plus subscribers first once wide rollout begins. These features aim to enrich the user experience and provide a more natural interaction. OpenAI believes that these new developments will positively change the perception of artificial intelligence among users.

According to Bloomberg, it is stated that OpenAI is close to an agreement with Apple to integrate ChatGPT into the iPhone. If it happens, this could replace existing voice assistants like Siri. For iPhone users, this means a much more capable assistant that can answer questions directly rather than using web searches.

In his statement after the live broadcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that the new audio and video mode is the best computer interface he has ever used. According to Altman, providing human-level response times and expressiveness creates a huge shift in user experience.
