Bluesky is working on DM feature

Bluesky looks ready to borrow some of the classic methods of social media platforms. The decentralized social app announced that it is working on new features like DMs, video, and improved Private Streams. The number of users of the platform, which opened its doors to everyone in February, increased from 40 thousand to 5.6 million within a year.

Currently, all posts on Bluesky are public. That's why DMs are a particularly important addition. The new DM option will be directly integrated into the application. These messages will initially only be available for one-on-one chats, and users will be able to limit who can message them. DMs will initially be “out of protocol” on the platform, which uses an open source framework. Thus, Bluesky will be able to create them “iteratively”.

Another feature Bluesky is working on is videos that can be up to 90 seconds. The company is exploring a number of ideas for Custom Feeds, including a space for trend feeds, in-app feed creation, and improved feed discovery overall. OAuth support paves the way for Bluesky to be used to log in to different platforms one day.

Jack Dorsey recently left Bluesky management

A release date has not yet been given for Bluesky's new features. But the company plans to make them all available in the next few months. Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, recently announced that he left the board of directors of Bluesky, which he founded.
