Bluesky has released a new update to make its decentralized short content sharing platform more user-friendly. These innovations, introduced with version 1.92, allow users to pin profile posts and customize fonts and text sizes. By announcing these new features via Threads, the platform did not neglect to make a reference to its rival Meta: “We are here because we are not owned by a billionaire.” This statement is interpreted as a move towards increasing user dissatisfaction due to the problems experienced in Meta’s platform Threads.
New features focusing on user experience
Bluesky’s latest update aims to make the platform more attractive with many new features. Now users will be able to pin their important posts to the top of their profiles, just like on the X (formerly Twitter) platform. Additionally, the content experience has become more customizable with two new font options and text size settings added to the appearance settings. It is stated that the “Theme” font offers a better experience compared to the “System” font.
Other features that improve quality for users are also part of the update. Private messages (DM) can now be easily deleted; To delete a conversation, a swipe gesture on the message is sufficient. Other added functions include the ability to share videos directly from the camera roll. In addition, the option to mute unwanted words in notifications and search results increases users’ control. With the newly added language filter tool, search results can be limited to a specific language, but only one language can be filtered at a time.
There are also various improvements in the general user interface of the update. It is stated that improvements have been made to the look and feel of the platform with new animations.
These updates for Bluesky come in the shadow of recent problems with Meta’s Threads platform. Users complain about interaction traps that are rampant on Threads and that some content is overly sensitive or improperly censored. While this situation led to some accounts being incorrectly deleted or restricted, Threads manager Adam Mosseri stated that the problems were being resolved. However, this chaotic environment presented an opportunity for Bluesky to attract new users.
In Bluesky’s announcement via Threads, he emphasized that he always takes user feedback into consideration and works to improve the platform. In the statement, a call was also made to switch to the platform with the words “If you haven’t joined Bluesky yet, it’s not too late ;)”.
