Baykar’s MOSQUITO intelligent loitering ammunition performed a swarm flight of 20 vehicles in the Free Fire 2026 exercise. Baykar General Manager Haluk Bayraktar announced that 10 ammunition separated from the herd hit the targets accurately. Focusing on a different platform than AKINCI’s firing tests, the demonstration highlights the movement of multiple ammunition with joint coordination. The activity took place in the General Nahit Şenoğul Shooting and Exercise Zone in Ankara’s Polatlı district.
In addition to flying alone, the MOSQUITO aims to share information with other vehicles in the swarm. In addition, Baykar explains the instant sharing of target information detected with the support of artificial intelligence between vehicles. Thus, the striking part of the display is not only the number of vehicles taking off at the same time. The scope also includes the separation of vehicles from the herd and their transition to different mission stages.
Baykar’s platform description states a range of over 1,000 kilometers for the MOSQUITO. On the other hand, the system can use visual positioning when global navigation satellite system signals are not available. The company is developing this capability for dense electronic jamming environments, but the announced range and the distance traveled in the exercise are not the same data. The new notation does not indicate that a 1,000-kilometer flight was made.
Official information about the exercise confirms the shooting activities of land and air elements. In its statement dated October 13, the Ministry of National Defense mentions the Distinguished Observer Day in Polatlı, and in addition, systems from different forces participate in the activity. The MOSQUITO demonstration also forms part of this wider exercise.
MOSQUITO flies in a larger swarm than in the previous display
Baykar flew 10 MOSQUITO together with five K2 kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles at the demonstration in Keşan in April. TB2, TB3 and AKINCI also accompanied that screening. Additionally, the company announced visual navigation and automatic target detection capabilities here. The number of 20 MOSQUITOS announced in Fire Free 2026 is double the number of the same platforms in the previous screening.
This comparison helps understand the scale of the new activity, although it is not accurate to count all participants as the same type of vehicles. The K2s and the large imaging platforms in the April demonstration were separate systems. The new statement distinguishes between 20 MOSQUITOes and 10 ammunition allocated to the target from this swarm. Therefore, just because 10 ammunition is aimed at the target does not mean that the other 10 vehicles in the herd have failed.
