There were reports recently that Apple would make it easier to replace iPhone batteries in order to comply with European Union regulations. Apple will replace the adhesive pull tabs that hold the battery in place with a metal slide that opens when hit with an electric shock. This is called electrically induced adhesive release. According to a post by famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will switch to a technology that will first be used on the iPhone 16 Pro Max to make this process easier.
Apple will use a stainless steel battery case to make battery removal easier. The added benefit of this will be a reported 5 to 10 percent increase in battery cell density while still meeting safety requirements. This will allow for better battery life.
iPhone 16 Pro Max stainless steel battery case to be manufactured by Sunway
According to Kuo, Apple has reached an agreement with Sunway to produce its new stainless steel battery case. Kuo also noted that Sunway will benefit greatly from this agreement.
Apple is required by European Union rules to switch to user-replaceable batteries by 2025, making it necessary for the company to adopt new battery technology.
