Bad news for iPhone 18 Pro: The expected screen innovation may not come

New leaks continue to emerge about Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, which are expected to be introduced this year. According to claims that have been talked about in technology circles for a long time, the company was expected to reduce the Dynamic Island area by using the under-screen Face ID sensor in these models. However, a new leak based in China reveals that this change may not be as soon as planned.

According to Digital Chat Station, which is known for its shares on the Weibo platform and frequently provides accurate information, the Dynamic Island design of the iPhone 18 Pro series may remain the same as the previous generation. Accordingly, the screen cross-section and sensor placement in the iPhone 17 Pro models will be largely preserved. This indicates that Apple may have postponed its plan to move Face ID sensors under the screen for at least a year.

The leak source does not elaborate on the technical or business reasons behind this decision. Despite this, industry analysts point out some possible reasons. The recent increase in RAM and semiconductor costs, especially in smartphone components, directly affects production costs. In such an environment, the postponement of more expensive technologies such as the under-screen sensor system can be explained by Apple’s aim to keep device prices balanced.

Technical innovations expected in the iPhone 18 Pro series

Although it is rumored that the Dynamic Island design will not change, it is not thought that the iPhone 18 Pro series will remain completely devoid of innovation. According to the leak, the A20 Pro processor will be used in the new models. It is stated that this chip will be produced with TSMC’s 2 nanometer production process. More advanced production technology can provide significant gains in both performance and energy efficiency.

In addition, some changes are on the agenda on the camera side. Allegedly, Apple plans to integrate the variable aperture technology used in professional camera systems into the iPhone 18 Pro models. This feature aims to improve photo quality by adjusting the amount of light entering the sensor in different light conditions. It is stated that this innovation can offer remarkable results, especially in terms of low light performance and portrait shots.

Growth is also expected on the battery capacity side. According to the leak, the battery of the iPhone 18 Pro Max model may exceed 5,000 mAh capacity. While Apple doesn’t usually release official figures on battery capacity, a larger battery could mean longer runtime under heavy use.

No significant changes are expected in screen size and design. According to the source, the screen sizes and general design of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models will be largely the same as the iPhone 17 Pro series. This shows that Apple can focus more on internal hardware and camera developments in this generation.

Apple is expected to introduce its new iPhone series in September, adhering to its traditional schedule. There are claims that the foldable iPhone model, which has been talked about for a long time, may also be introduced at the same event. While some sources suggest that this device will come with the name “iPhone Fold”, others state that Apple may prefer the “Ultra” brand.
