Apple’s curious smart glasses may be released by the end of 2027

It seems that the launch of the smart glasses project, which Apple has been developing for a long time, has been postponed once again. According to the information shared by Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, the introduction of smart glasses, codenamed N50 within Apple, is now planned for the end of 2027. This new schedule falls behind Gurman’s previously anticipated announcement of the end of 2026 and the start of shipment at the beginning of 2027. Thus, it appears that the company’s entry into this new product category in the field of wearable technology will take longer than expected.

If the new schedule is realized, it will be necessary to wait a little longer for the product to reach consumers. If the introduction is made at the end of 2027, it seems possible that the reach in online stores and physical sales channels will extend to 2028. There is no official statement from Apple regarding the issue. Despite this, Bloomberg’s sources state that the company continues to work on the product and the development process continues.

It is also reported that Apple is working on various design options to differentiate itself from its competitors in this category. According to the information shared by Gurman, the company aims to offer its smart glasses in four different styles and various color options. This approach is remarkable, especially considering the success Meta has achieved with the glasses developed in collaboration with Ray-Ban. Design diversity can help position the device not only as a technological product but also as an accessory that can be preferred in daily use.

Apple Intelligence-powered Siri integration may stand out

It is stated that the postponement may also provide some advantages for Apple. Chief among these is the new Siri experience developed under the umbrella of Apple Intelligence. The company is expected to launch the artificial intelligence-supported Siri version this year. A later release of smart glasses may allow Apple to integrate these advanced voice assistant features into the product more comprehensively.

However, Apple’s work in the field of augmented reality and artificial intelligence has accelerated in recent years. The company entered the mixed reality market with Vision Pro, but was limited in reaching wider audiences due to the high price of this product. The smart glasses category, on the other hand, has the potential to appeal to a different user base with its lighter, portable and suitable for daily use structure. For this reason, it is stated that Apple continues to develop the project instead of shelving it completely.

On the other hand, news of the new delay may relieve Meta, one of the strongest players in the smart glasses market. Meta announced the second generation Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses last year and offered improved artificial intelligence features with longer battery life compared to the previous model. Increasing the company’s experience in this field may cause Apple to face a more mature competitive environment when it enters the market.

Among the information provided by Gurman is that Apple is also evaluating health-oriented usage scenarios for its smart glasses. It is stated that the company is considering the possibility of using augmented reality technologies to support the visual experience. It is not yet clear whether such features will be included in the final product. Despite this, it appears that Apple is trying to move beyond a device that merely displays notifications or responds to voice commands. While the technical details of the product remain unclear in the light of current information, it seems that Apple’s smart glasses project continues to be included in the company’s wearable technology plans in the coming years.
