Apple’s 12 -inch Retina Macbook: An evaluation after 10 years

Apple, on March 9, 2015 at the “Spring Forward” event held at San Francisco, the Apple Watch attracted great attention at that time, as well as an unexpected surprise in the world of technology, introduced 12 -inch Retina Macbook. This new MacBook was released on the claim to redefine the concept of laptop.

The 12 -inch Retina Macbook was the finest and light laptop of Apple until then. It was only 13.1 mm thick and weighing about 920 grams. This delicacy and lightness increased the portability of the device and attracted attention with some radical changes made in the design. For example, instead of connection points such as traditional USB-A, HDMI and Magsafe, there was only one USB-C port and a 3.5 mm headphone jacket. The USB-C port was used for both charging and data transfer.

This minimalist design approach led to controversy between users. The use of a single USB-C port for both charging and data transfer led to the need for adapter and this was criticized. In addition, the Intel Core M processors used on the device did not fully meet expectations in terms of performance, although it provides energy efficiency. In addition, Apple’s new “butterfly” mechanism keyboard has made mixed feedback in terms of user experience, while making it possible to design. The keyboard was criticized by some users for less movement of the keys.

Despite all these criticisms, 12 -inch Retina Macbook has directed Apple’s future laptop designs. The device attracted attention with its fale design, retina screen and portability. In addition, the adoption of the USB-C port pointed to the beginning of a new standard in the industry. With this device, Apple introduced the “Force Touch” trackpad; This technology offered different functions by detecting the pressure of users to Trackpad.

Developments on MacBook and next steps

In 2016, Apple updated the 12 -inch Macbook and used Intel Skylake Core M3, M5 and M7 processors. This update improved the performance of the device and improved battery life. In addition, faster PCIe storage and “Rose Gold” color option has been added. In 2017, Intel Kaby Lake Core M3, i5 and i7 processors and the second generation butterfly mechanism keyboard were introduced. These updates aimed to increase the performance and reliability of the device.

However, the production of 12 inch Macbook ended in 2019 with the introduction of the new Macbook Air. The new MacBook Air adopted the design of the 12-inch MacBook, but it came with the additional USB-C port, a fan cooling system and a larger screen. These changes were made by taking into account the previous criticisms of users.

Today, ten years have passed since the introduction of 12 -inch retina Macbook. Despite the debate at that time, the device represented a bold step in Apple’s laptop design. With its minimalist design, innovative keyboard and USB-C port, it laid the foundation of future laptops. Apple’s experimental approach has prepared the ground for the emergence of more balanced and user -friendly designs in the next models.
